Echo in the dark
I hear your whispered words to me,
To let you go and set you free.
October leaves they tumbled through the park.
You left me just standing there,
The mistral winds blew through your hair.
Then you were gone as the morning to the lark.
Like an echo in the dark.
To recollect upon that day,
The words of love I tried to say.
Helplessly I watched your life embark.
In restless dreams I hear your call,
When Autumn leaves they start to fall.
Just like the trees I feel so cold and stark.
Like an echo in the dark.
Forever I will think of you,
A first love isn’t always true.
The mightiest of oaks still needs it’s bark.
Sometimes I hope you think of me,
With a smile of generosity.
Remembering we rode the rainbow’s arc.
Like an echo in the dark.
It’s hard to know now what was true,
Like forgotten songs that I once knew.
On my heart your love has left its mark.
Moving on can be so tough,
When memories are not enough.
But tear soaked embers seldom find a spark.
Like an echo in the dark.
